RR vs GT: Both Need Wins, But Gujarat's Poor NRR Makes Playoff Path Tougher Than Royals
RR and GT have identical 6-4 records but different playoff odds; NRR heavily favours Rajasthan's qualification chances.
Rajasthan Royals and Gujarat Titans are set for a crucial IPL 2026 showdown as the playoff race enters its final stretch. With both teams sitting on 12 points after 10 matches, Saturday’s clash in Jaipur could significantly impact the top-four standings. Rajasthan currently hold the fourth spot because of their stronger net run rate, while Gujarat remain close behind despite an inconsistent campaign so far.
Rajasthan Royals began the season in dominant fashion, winning four consecutive matches and looking like early title contenders. However, their momentum slowed in recent weeks after suffering four defeats in their last six games. Sanju Samson’s side still controls its own destiny, though. Two wins from their remaining four league matches would take Rajasthan to 16 points, a tally that has historically been enough to qualify for the IPL playoffs in most seasons. If RR manage three wins, they could even push for a top-two finish and gain the important advantage of an extra opportunity in the playoffs.
The Gujarat Titans, meanwhile, have experienced a mixed season with flashes of brilliance but inconsistent results. After a shaky start, GT recovered strongly by winning three of their last four games to stay alive in the qualification race. However, their major concern remains net run rate. Gujarat currently have a negative NRR of -0.147, which could become a huge disadvantage if multiple teams finish level on points. Even if they reach 16 points, qualification may not be guaranteed unless they improve their margin of victories in the remaining matches.

For Rajasthan, the qualification equation remains relatively straightforward. Winning at least two more matches should keep them in a strong position. But if they finish with only one additional victory and end on 14 points, their fate would depend heavily on other results and net run rate calculations. Rajasthan’s superior NRR of 0.510 currently gives them an important cushion over rivals like Gujarat and Chennai Super Kings.
Gujarat Titans, on the other hand, not only need victories but also convincing wins to repair their net run rate. Their remaining fixtures against Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings could decide their season. With the IPL 2026 playoff battle becoming tighter every week, Saturday’s RR vs GT encounter may prove to be one of the defining matches of the tournament.
