Ajinkya Rahane Reflects on KKR's Fighting Spirit Despite Missing IPL 2026 Playoffs

KKR captain Rahane praises the team's resilience and character despite finishing seventh and missing IPL playoffs.

Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane expressed pride in his team's resilience despite their elimination from the Indian Premier League 2026 playoff race following a disappointing end to the season. The three-time IPL champions finished seventh in the points table after suffering a heavy defeat against Delhi Capitals in their final league match on Sunday night. Rahane admitted that missing out on qualification was painful but praised his players for showing character during a challenging campaign.

Speaking after the conclusion of KKR’s season, Rahane highlighted the squad’s remarkable recovery after a difficult opening phase in the tournament. He noted that the team had struggled during the first six games but managed to keep their playoff hopes alive through determination, positivity, and collective effort. According to the veteran batter, the comeback demonstrated the mental strength and fighting spirit within the dressing room, especially during high-pressure situations in the second half of the competition.

Rahane said the players remained united throughout the tournament despite inconsistent performances and tough setbacks. He emphasized that the atmosphere inside the camp stayed positive even when results were not going in KKR’s favor. The skipper added that every player contributed wholeheartedly and continued to fight for the franchise until the very end of the league stage. While acknowledging the disappointment of not advancing further, he maintained that the team could still take several positives from the season.

The final blow to KKR’s playoff hopes came in Kolkata, where Delhi Capitals secured a commanding 40-run victory. KL Rahul starred with the bat for Delhi Capitals by scoring a composed half-century, while spinner Kuldeep Yadav played a crucial role with the ball by taking three wickets. KKR struggled to keep pace during the chase and ultimately ended their campaign on a disappointing note in front of their home crowd.

KKR entered IPL 2026 with expectations of making another deep run in the tournament, given the franchise’s history and experienced squad. However, inconsistent performances during crucial moments hurt their chances of securing a place in the top four. Despite flashes of brilliance in the latter stages of the season, the team was unable to recover fully from their poor start. Several close defeats earlier in the tournament eventually proved costly in the final standings.

Rahane’s emotional remarks reflected the frustration of a side that fought hard but fell short of its ultimate objective. The veteran cricketer nevertheless backed his players and praised their commitment throughout a long and demanding IPL season. With IPL 2026 now over for KKR, the franchise is expected to review its campaign carefully and focus on rebuilding ahead of the next edition. Fans will hope the team can return stronger and once again compete for the championship title.
