Kolkata Knight Riders Sign Wicketkeeper Sisodia to Replace Injured Pacer Pathirana

KKR signs Sisodia as replacement for injured Pathirana.

Kolkata Knight Riders have signed Luvnith Sisodia as a replacement for injured Sri Lankan fast bowler Matheesha Pathirana for the remainder of IPL 2026. The three-time IPL champions announced the move as they look to strengthen squad depth during the crucial final phase of the tournament.

Sisodia, a wicketkeeper-batter from Karnataka, is no stranger to the IPL setup and has previously been associated with both the Kolkata Knight Riders and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru. The 25-year-old has played 15 T20 matches in his career so far, scoring 124 runs, and joins the KKR squad for Rs 30 lakh.

The addition comes at a difficult time for Kolkata, which is also dealing with the absence of Angkrish Raghuvanshi after the youngster was ruled out due to a concussion and finger fracture. Team management is expected to rely on Sisodia to provide additional batting and wicketkeeping options as the franchise pushes for a playoff spot in the ongoing season.

Pathirana, who was bought by KKR for a massive Rs 18 crore during the IPL auction, suffered a hamstring injury shortly after making his debut for the franchise. The Sri Lankan pacer bowled only 1.2 overs against Gujarat Titans on May 16 before being forced out of the competition.

KKR’s decision to bring back Sisodia highlights the challenges franchises face during long IPL campaigns, where injuries can significantly affect team balance and strategy. With the playoff race intensifying, Kolkata will be hoping the squad adjustments help maintain stability and improve their chances of advancing further in the tournament.
