IPL 2026: Virat Kohli Delivers Powerful Statement After RCB's Triumph

Kohli stresses improvement after guiding RCB to IPL glory.

Virat Kohli revealed that the emergence of a new generation of aggressive young batters has forced him to adapt his approach to the game, moments after guiding Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) to their second consecutive Indian Premier League (IPL) title. Kohli's unbeaten 75 off 42 balls helped RCB chase down 156 against Gujarat Titans in the IPL 2026 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, with the veteran batter also recording the fastest T20 half-century of his career during the title-clinching innings.

Speaking after the victory, Kohli reflected on how the modern demands of T20 cricket continue to evolve, even for experienced players. Without naming any individual, he referred to the influence of younger cricketers whose fearless batting styles have raised the standards of the format. Kohli said their performances had encouraged him to adjust his mindset and become more proactive in seeking scoring opportunities, while maintaining the core elements of his game.

The 37-year-old also expressed satisfaction with the balance and depth within the current RCB squad, noting that success no longer depends on a single player carrying the team. He highlighted the contributions of several teammates throughout the season, including Josh Hazlewood, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Jacob Duffy, Krunal Pandya and Rasikh Salam Dar. Kohli pointed out that the spread of Player of the Match awards across the squad reflected the team's collective strength and ability to deliver in crucial moments.

According to Kohli, the confidence within the dressing room stemmed from RCB's consistent performances throughout the season. The team finished at the top of the league standings and entered the playoffs believing they possessed the strongest all-round unit in the competition. He said the players remained focused on executing their plans rather than worrying about the identity of their opponents, a mindset that contributed to their successful title defence.

Kohli credited a narrow victory over Mumbai Indians after the mid-season break as a turning point in the campaign. The win helped restore momentum and belief within the squad, which was later reinforced by a comprehensive triumph over Kolkata Knight Riders. Those performances enabled Bengaluru to maintain first place in the standings and enter the final with confidence and clarity about their objectives.

The veteran batter also acknowledged the unwavering support of RCB fans, many of whom turned the Narendra Modi Stadium into a sea of red despite Gujarat Titans playing at their home venue. Kohli said the team's supporters had backed them throughout the season, effectively giving the franchise the feeling of playing with home support wherever they travelled. Their encouragement, combined with a balanced squad and strong leadership, helped RCB secure back-to-back IPL titles and continue one of the most successful periods in the franchise's history.
