Vaibhav Sooryavanshi Dismissed in Fourth Over for 14 by Mohamed Shiraz in Tri-Series Opener

Sooryavanshi smashes three fours before falling for 14 in the Tri-Series opener against Sri Lanka A.

Young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi endured a frustrating start to the Tri-Nation A Series in Sri Lanka after throwing away a promising innings against Sri Lanka A on Tuesday. The left-handed opener looked in sublime touch during the opening overs, striking three boundaries in quick succession before falling for just 14 runs off 12 deliveries.

Sooryavanshi announced his arrival with intent, smashing consecutive fours in the second over after getting off the mark. He continued his aggressive approach by opening the following over with another boundary, putting pressure on the Sri Lankan bowlers and appearing well set for a substantial innings. His fluent strokeplay briefly suggested India A could be in for a flying start.

However, the momentum shifted dramatically in the fourth over when Sri Lanka A pacer Mohamed Shiraz delivered a fuller ball outside off stump. Attempting another attacking stroke, Sooryavanshi lost control of the shot as the bat twisted in his hands. The mistimed drive ballooned towards mid-off, where a diving fielder completed a comfortable catch to end the youngster's stay at the crease.

Despite the early dismissal, Sooryavanshi remains one of India's most exciting young prospects following his impressive performances in age-group cricket and his rapid rise through the ranks. The Tri-Nation tournament, featuring India A, Sri Lanka A, and Afghanistan A, is viewed as an important opportunity for the teenager to adapt to slower, spin-friendly conditions ahead of bigger international assignments.

India A captain Tilak Varma had expressed confidence in Sooryavanshi before the match, highlighting his strong performances during India's Under-19 World Cup campaign. Varma noted that batting conditions in Sri Lanka would provide a different challenge compared to the aggressive style that has made the youngster a fan favorite. While the opener's first outing ended in disappointment, the remaining matches in the series offer him further opportunities to showcase his talent and prove his adaptability in the 50-over format.
