ROOT SUPREMACY! – Joe Root Shatters Records with Stunning Century at Lord’s, Leaves Dravid and Smith Behind

Joe Root smashes 37th Test ton at Lord’s, overtakes Dravid and Smith in style.

Joe Root is rewriting cricket history, and this time he’s done it in style at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground. The England batting maestro lit up Day 2 of the third Test against India with a masterclass 104, not only marking his 37th Test century but also surpassing legends Rahul Dravid and Steve Smith in the process.

Root’s ton came in signature style — a crisp boundary off Jasprit Bumrah, punched wide of the third slip. Though Bumrah eventually got his revenge, clean-bowling the former skipper for 104 off 199 balls, the damage had been done — and the records had been rewritten.

With this latest milestone, Root now sits fifth on the all-time list of Test century-makers, ahead of both Dravid and Smith, who are tied at 36. Only cricket greats Sachin Tendulkar (51), Jacques Kallis (45), Ricky Ponting (41), and Kumar Sangakkara (38) remain ahead of him.

But Root wasn’t done there.

He also tied Steve Smith’s record of 11 Test centuries against India, the most by any batter in the format's long history. Behind them? Legends like Gary Sobers, Viv Richards, and Ponting, all with eight.

Perhaps most impressively, Root achieved this in 60 innings, compared to Smith’s 46 — a testament to Root’s consistency and class over time.

The Lord’s crowd witnessed another slice of history as Root became just the third English batter to score three consecutive centuries at the venue, joining elite company in Michael Vaughan and Sir Jack Hobbs. Globally, only Dilip Vengsarkar has matched that feat at Lord’s, scoring tons in 1979, 1982, and 1986.

Root’s latest hundred is also his eighth at Lord’s, making him the most prolific century-maker ever at the “Home of Cricket.” He now surpasses fellow England greats Graham Gooch and Vaughan, both of whom have six.

With records tumbling and history bowing to his brilliance, one thing is clear — Joe Root isn’t just playing cricket. He’s building a legacy.
