Deepti Sharma Reveals MS Dhoni’s Secret to Mastering Pressure in Cricket!
India’s star all-rounder credits MS Dhoni’s calm demeanor for her ability to thrive in high-pressure situations.
Deepti Sharma, India Women’s cricket sensation, has unlocked the secret to staying cool under pressure, and it’s all thanks to her idol, MS Dhoni. The 27-year-old all-rounder, who recently joined the elite 300-wicket club alongside legend Jhulan Goswami, shared how watching Dhoni’s matches shaped her approach to the game.
“I was hooked on watching MS Dhoni play,” Deepti told BCCI TV. “He never seemed fazed, always handling tough moments with ease and finishing games. I’ve worked to bring that same calmness into my game.”
Known for her clutch performances, Deepti has become a cornerstone of the Indian team, delivering breakthroughs with her off-spin and rescuing the side with her bat. “I love tough challenges,” she said. “Whether bowling in the powerplay or slog overs, I keep it simple and focus on getting the job done.”

Her milestone 300th international wicket came against England’s Alice Capsey in the 4th T20I, a moment that filled her and her family with pride. “I never chased records,” Deepti admitted. “My focus was always on playing for India and contributing to wins.”
Reflecting on her journey since her ODI debut at 17 against South Africa in 2014, Deepti emphasized impact over numbers. “It’s not about wickets or runs—it’s about how I can help the team win and navigate tough situations,” she said.
Joining Jhulan Goswami in the 300-wicket club is a special milestone for Deepti. “Jhulan is a legend who guided me from my debut,” she said. “Sharing this achievement with her is incredible.” She dedicated the milestone to her family, whose sacrifices paved her path to success.
With 20 wickets in 5 Tests, 135 in 106 WODIs, and 145 in 128 WT20Is, Deepti’s stats speak volumes. Yet, for her, it’s all about the team. “I don’t set targets for wickets or runs,” she said. “It’s about making a difference for India.”
