Rohit Sharma Shows Renewed Determination, Fitness Before Australia ODI Clash
Rohit Sharma channels past setbacks and improved fitness to gear up for Australia ODIs.
Former Indian cricketer Sanjay Bangar has praised captain Rohit Sharma for his fitness and preparation ahead of India’s upcoming ODI series against Australia. Bangar drew parallels between Rohit’s current determination and his mindset after missing the 2011 World Cup, describing the exclusion as a “deep wound” that shaped his career and work ethic.
Rohit has reportedly adopted a strict fitness regimen, evident in his leaner physique and rigorous preparation, aiming to contribute not just with the bat but also as a dynamic fielder. Bangar highlighted that, as captain, Rohit needs to patrol the outfield and dive for catches, roles that demand both stamina and agility. “It’s great to see Rohit Sharma hungry and fit once again. His mindset and preparation reflect a complete approach to leadership and performance,” Bangar said on JioHotstar.
The 36-year-old ‘Hitman’ is one of India’s most prolific ODI batters, with 11,168 runs in 273 matches, including 32 centuries and 58 fifties, at an average of 48.76 and a strike rate of 92.80. His record in Australia is equally impressive, with 1,328 runs in 30 matches, five centuries, and four fifties, averaging 53.12. Analysts note that his experience and form will be crucial as India faces Australia in three matches in Perth, Adelaide, and Sydney on October 19, 23, and 25.

Under Rohit’s leadership, India has achieved remarkable success in limited-overs cricket, including ODI Asia Cup titles in 2018 and 2023, a runners-up finish at the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup, and winning the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai this year. His captaincy record, losing only one game out of 23 across three major ICC tournaments and securing two titles, is widely regarded as one of the strongest in Indian white-ball cricket history.
With renewed focus and fitness, Rohit looks poised to lead India with both skill and energy against a formidable Australian side.
