Former India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin expressed deep emotional distress after watching 15-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi visibly heartbroken following Rajasthan Royals’ elimination from IPL 2026, saying the young batter’s reaction reflected the immense pressure carried by a player still in his teens.
Sooryavanshi, who played a standout innings of 96 in the high-stakes Qualifier 2 against Gujarat Titans, was left visibly dejected as Rajasthan Royals fell short in their chase of 215. Despite his exceptional effort, Gujarat Titans, powered by Shubman Gill’s century and a dominant opening partnership, secured an eight-wicket victory to end RR’s campaign.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ashwin said the emotional images of Sooryavanshi after the match were difficult to watch. He described the teenager as “just a little kid,” noting that despite his age, the batter’s mindset was fully invested in winning matches for his team, making the defeat particularly hard to process.

Ashwin also analysed Rajasthan Royals’ overall performance, stating that the team lacked sufficient support around Sooryavanshi throughout the innings. He pointed to early dismissals and inconsistent contributions from the middle order, arguing that the teenager was left to shoulder the majority of the batting responsibility in a high-pressure knockout game.
He highlighted that while Ravindra Jadeja and Donovan Ferreira provided brief resistance, the rest of the batting lineup failed to build meaningful partnerships. Ashwin criticised the lack of intent and impact from several batters, suggesting that RR were never truly in control of the contest despite posting a strong total.
Despite his critique of the team’s collective performance, Ashwin reserved high praise for Sooryavanshi, calling his innings extraordinary and noting that he often found himself stranded without strike for crucial periods. He concluded that the teenager’s composure, maturity, and ability to compete at such a level made him “incredible,” underlining the rare talent he displayed in a difficult defeat.
