Pakistan's Ahmed Shehzad Breaks Down Live on PSL Exclusion
Ahmed Shehzad was emotional on TV after the PSL 2026 exclusion.
Former Pakistan batter Ahmed Shehzad broke down during a television appearance after being overlooked for the Pakistan Super League (PSL) 2026 season, expressing disappointment over his continued absence from the tournament. Shehzad, once a regular feature in Pakistan’s limited-overs setup, has not played international cricket since 2019.
During the on-air interaction, Shehzad was asked about missing out on the PSL despite having previously been part of a title-winning squad. The anchor noted that he had featured prominently in earlier editions but had been absent in recent seasons. The question appeared to trigger an emotional response from the 34-year-old cricketer.
At one point, Shehzad referred to his personal life, saying, “My son is 9,” as he spoke about his desire to continue playing competitive cricket. The remark reflected the emotional toll of his prolonged absence from top-level domestic and franchise cricket, as he reiterated his wish to return to the PSL.

Shehzad has in recent years been openly critical of Pakistan's cricket administration and selection processes. He previously alleged a lack of merit-based opportunities in the PSL and even announced his decision to step away from the league. His strained relationship with the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been widely reported.
The right-handed batter last featured in first-class and List A cricket in 2024. Once regarded as one of Pakistan’s most promising opening batters, Shehzad now faces an uncertain professional future as he continues to push for a return to mainstream cricket through franchise opportunities.
