India's Bangladesh Cricket Tour Postponed Over Security Fears

The BCCI’s caution follows Bangladesh’s political turmoil since August 2024

India’s scheduled white-ball tour of Bangladesh, set for August 17-31, 2025, is likely to be postponed due to ongoing security concerns stemming from civil unrest in the country, a Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) source confirmed to PTI. The tour, comprising three ODIs and three T20Is in Dhaka and Chattogram, is not canceled but is expected to be rescheduled, likely in 2026, to ensure safety and align with ODI Championship points for World Cup qualification.

The BCCI’s caution follows Bangladesh’s political turmoil since August 2024, when a student-led protest against job reservation policies toppled the Sheikh Hasina-led Awami League government. Hasina fled to India, and many senior Awami League leaders faced arrests or mob attacks, with the country now under an interim government led by Muhammad Yunus. The BCCI is awaiting stability post-Bangladesh’s general elections, expected in early 2026, before committing to the tour.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has paused media rights tenders for the series, signaling the postponement, though no joint statement from BCCI and BCB has been issued yet. BCB President Aminul Islam noted ongoing discussions with the BCCI to find a suitable window, as India’s packed schedule, including the T20 World Cup and IPL in 2026, complicates rescheduling. The postponement delays the anticipated return of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli, who are set to play ODIs.
