India’s young batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi created history during the first T20 International against Zimbabwe at the Harare Sports Club on Thursday, becoming the youngest player to score a half-century in T20I cricket. The teenager reached the milestone in just 18 balls, breaking a long-standing record associated with Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar.
Sooryavanshi played an explosive innings while chasing Zimbabwe’s target of 126 runs, scoring a rapid fifty before being dismissed on the very next delivery. His aggressive stroke play gave India a strong start in the run chase and marked another major achievement in his early international career.
India had earlier produced an impressive bowling performance after captain Shreyas Iyer won the toss and elected to bowl first. The Indian bowlers kept Zimbabwe’s batting lineup under pressure throughout the innings, restricting the hosts to 125 for seven in their allotted 20 overs at the Harare Sports Club.

Mayank Yadav and Prince Yadav were the standout performers with the ball, claiming two wickets each and restricting Zimbabwe’s scoring opportunities. Zimbabwe batter Wessly Madhevere provided some resistance for the hosts, finishing as their highest scorer with 39 runs from 34 deliveries, including three fours and one six.
During India’s chase, Sooryavanshi’s attacking approach quickly shifted momentum in favour of the visitors. After his dismissal, Shreyas Iyer and Ishan Kishan continued the innings as India looked to complete the chase and take an early lead in the T20I series.
Sooryavanshi’s record-breaking knock added another milestone to India’s growing list of young cricket achievements. His performance against Zimbabwe highlighted the depth of emerging talent in Indian cricket and placed him among the youngest players to make a significant impact on the international stage.
