India Hold Top Position In ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings After Annual Update

India retain top spot in ICC ODI rankings update

India have retained their position at the top of the ICC Men’s ODI Team Rankings following the latest annual update, although their lead over New Zealand has narrowed slightly, reflecting small but notable shifts in rating points among the leading international sides. The update is based on a weighted assessment of performances over a multi-year cycle, designed to reflect long-term consistency rather than short-term form.

According to the revised standings, India’s rating has slipped marginally from 119 to 118 points. Despite the dip, India remain firmly in first place due to their consistent performances across bilateral series and ICC events over the evaluation period. However, the gap between India and second-placed New Zealand has reduced from eight rating points to five, increasing competitive pressure at the top of the table.

New Zealand have gained two rating points in the update, moving up to 113. Their upward adjustment reflects strong results in recent ODI assignments and reinforces their position as one of the most consistent white-ball sides in world cricket. While still behind India, their improved rating keeps them within touching distance in the global standings.

Australia continue to occupy third place in the rankings with 109 points, maintaining their status as a leading force in ODI cricket. Below them, South Africa have moved up to fourth position with 102 points, overtaking Pakistan, who have dropped to fifth place with 98 points. This is the only change within the top five, but it reflects the closely contested nature of the mid-to-upper tier of international ODI cricket.

Further down the rankings, Bangladesh remain in ninth position, but the gap between them and the West Indies has widened to 10 points, indicating a growing separation in performance consistency between the two sides. Meanwhile, Ireland have improved their standing by overtaking Zimbabwe to reach 11th place, while the United States have climbed above Scotland to take 13th position. In another minor shift, the United Arab Emirates have moved ahead of Canada to occupy 19th place, reflecting gradual progress among emerging cricket nations.

The annual update also highlights broader stability at the top across formats. India continue to hold the number one position in the ICC Men’s T20I Rankings, underlining their dominance in white-ball cricket overall. Australia, meanwhile, remain the top-ranked side in Test cricket as well as in both women’s ODI and T20I rankings, reinforcing their across-format strength in the global game.

Overall, the latest ICC rankings update reflects continuity at the top end of the ODI structure, with India maintaining their leadership position despite a slight reduction in points. At the same time, the tightening gap with New Zealand and minor reshuffling among mid-ranked teams underline the increasingly competitive nature of international cricket, where small performance swings can influence global standings.
