Bhuvneshwar Kumar On Comeback Calls: “I Don’t Want To Show I Want To Play”
Bhuvneshwar Kumar says he is not signalling desire for comeback.
Veteran Indian fast bowler Bhuvneshwar Kumar has addressed growing calls for his international comeback, stating that he has no intention of actively pushing for a return to the national team despite a strong domestic and IPL resurgence. The experienced right-arm seamer has been in impressive form in the Indian Premier League for Royal Challengers Bengaluru, playing a key role in their title-winning campaign.
His renewed rhythm with the ball, particularly his swing with the new ball and control in the death overs, has drawn attention from fans and former players who believe he still has value at the international level. In the 2025 IPL season, Bhuvneshwar picked up 17 wickets, re-establishing himself as a dependable strike bowler. He followed that up with an even stronger 2026 campaign, finishing with 28 wickets and securing second place in the Purple Cap standings.
His performances included several match-defining spells that showcased both experience and tactical precision. Despite this resurgence, selectors have continued to overlook him for national duty, with Bhuvneshwar not included in recent T20I squads for tours such as England and Ireland, as well as upcoming multi-sport assignments. The decision has fuelled debate among supporters who argue that his form warrants another opportunity at the international level.

The 35-year-old, however, has taken a restrained stance on the issue, emphasising that selection is not within his control. He reiterated that he prefers to let performances speak for themselves rather than engage in any form of advocacy for selection, maintaining a professional distance from the debate surrounding his international future. Speaking on the matter, Bhuvneshwar said he is not the type to “show that I want to play,” underlining that his focus remains on contributing consistently whenever he is on the field.
He added that decisions regarding selection rest entirely with the national selectors and coaching staff. His comments come at a time when India’s fast-bowling options continue to evolve, with younger pacers being tested across formats. While his international future remains uncertain, Bhuvneshwar’s recent IPL performances have ensured that his name remains part of ongoing cricketing discussions, particularly regarding experience versus youth in India’s pace attack structure.
