India A Vs Sri Lanka A Final: Tilak Varma's Masterstroke Leaves SL A Six Down

India A seize control as Sri Lanka lose wickets.

India A tightened their grip on the Tri-Nation Series final against Sri Lanka A in Dambulla on Sunday, with the hosts struggling at 192/6 after 28 overs while chasing a daunting target of 378. Captain Tilak Varma's tactical decision to introduce himself into the bowling attack proved effective, as he claimed a crucial wicket to further dent Sri Lanka A's hopes of pulling off a record chase.

Sri Lanka A began their pursuit of 378 needing a strong and sustained batting effort, but India's bowlers consistently applied pressure. Fast bowler Yash Thakur emerged as the standout performer, picking up three wickets to put the hosts on the back foot. Ashok Sharma and Vipraj Nigam also contributed with a wicket each before Tilak Varma added to Sri Lanka's woes by striking with his own bowling. With six wickets down and the required run rate climbing steadily, the hosts faced an increasingly difficult task.

Earlier in the day, India A posted a formidable 377/9 after being asked to bat first. The innings was headlined by a breathtaking assault from 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi, who produced one of the most explosive knocks seen in List A cricket. The teenager hammered 94 runs off just 29 deliveries, reaching his half-century in a record 11 balls and leaving the Sri Lankan bowling attack with few answers.

Sooryavanshi's innings featured 10 boundaries and eight sixes as he dominated from the outset, helping India A race to a flying start. His aggressive approach laid the foundation for a massive total and shifted momentum decisively in India's favour. Although he fell short of a century, his knock will be remembered for its sheer intensity and the records it shattered during the course of the innings.

Following the teenager's departure, captain Tilak Varma played a crucial stabilising role. The left-hander anchored the innings with a composed 67 off 90 balls, ensuring India maintained control after the early fireworks. However, Sri Lanka A fought back during the latter stages of the innings, claiming five wickets for just 51 runs and briefly slowing India's progress.

Despite the late collapse, India A found a valuable finisher in Anukul Roy, who smashed 39 runs off only 15 deliveries from the No. 9 position. His late cameo pushed the total to 377/9, giving the bowlers a substantial cushion to defend. With Sri Lanka A six wickets down and still requiring a huge number of runs, India A appeared firmly on course for victory in the Tri-Nation Series final, with both Sooryavanshi's record-breaking batting and Tilak Varma's leadership playing decisive roles in the contest.
