India A Lift Tri-Series Trophy After Vaibhav Sooryavanshi’s Record-Breaking Final Knock

Sooryavanshi’s record innings seals India A tri-series victory.

India A clinched the Tri-Nation Series title with a 66-run victory over Sri Lanka A in the final at Dambulla on Sunday, capping off a dominant all-round performance led by teenage sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi. The win was powered by a record-breaking batting display and a disciplined bowling effort that ensured Sri Lanka A fell short in their chase of a massive target.

Batting first, India A posted a commanding total of 377/9, built on an extraordinary innings from 15-year-old Sooryavanshi. The young opener produced one of the most explosive knocks in List A cricket history, scoring 94 runs off just 29 deliveries. His innings included 10 fours and eight sixes, and he reached his half-century in just 11 balls, setting a new benchmark for the format. His aggressive approach put Sri Lanka A under immediate pressure and gave India A a flying start.

India A’s innings was further stabilised by captain Tilak Varma, who played a composed knock of 67 off 90 balls, anchoring the middle overs after the early fireworks. Lower down the order, Anukul Roy provided a crucial late surge with a quick 39 off just 15 deliveries, ensuring India crossed the 370-run mark despite losing wickets in clusters towards the end of the innings.

However, the required run rate kept climbing as India A’s bowlers maintained steady pressure throughout the innings. Pacer Yash Thakur and spinner Vipraj Nigam led the bowling attack with three wickets each, breaking the backbone of the Sri Lankan chase at crucial intervals.

Their combined efforts ensured that Sri Lanka A could not build sustained partnerships despite some spirited batting in the middle order. With this comprehensive win, India A sealed the Tri-Nation Series title, underlining their dominance across both batting and bowling departments. Sooryavanshi’s record-breaking innings stood out as the defining moment of the final, supported by strong contributions from the captain and the bowling unit, as India A completed a memorable campaign in Dambulla.
