Fakhar Zaman Denies T20I Retirement Plans After PSL Ball-Tampering Ban
Pakistan opener confirms continuing T20I career despite recent controversy
Fakhar Zaman has firmly dismissed ongoing speculation about his retirement from T20 Internationals, stating that he has no immediate plans to step away from the format despite recent controversies.
The 35-year-old opener revealed that he had initially considered retiring after the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, but has since changed his decision. “I no longer intend to retire and want to finish my T20 career on a high note,” Fakhar said, putting an end to rumors about his future in the shortest format.
His clarification comes just days after he was handed a two-match suspension in the Pakistan Super League 2026 season for ball-tampering during a match between Lahore Qalandars and Karachi Kings at Gaddafi Stadium. The Pakistan Cricket Board upheld the ban after dismissing his appeal against the Level 3 Code of Conduct breach.

Despite the setback, Fakhar remains one of Pakistan’s most consistent T20 performers. He has featured in 120 T20Is, scoring 2,494 runs at a strike rate above 130, including 14 half-centuries. His aggressive batting continues to make him a key player in the national setup.
During the recent T20 World Cup, Fakhar played a crucial knock in a must-win Super 8 clash against Sri Lanka, scoring 84 off just 42 balls. However, Pakistan, led by Salman Ali Agha, failed to meet the required margin and exited the tournament without reaching the semi-finals—marking another disappointing ICC campaign.
Fakhar has also been a standout performer in franchise cricket, especially with Lahore Qalandars, where he has amassed over 3,000 runs in the PSL. With his renewed commitment, fans can expect the experienced opener to continue playing a vital role as Pakistan looks to rebuild and aim for stronger performances in upcoming tournaments.
