Changing Of The Guard: Ishan Kishan Takes Top Spot In ICC T20I Rankings
Latest ICC rankings crown Kishan world No. 1.
India wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan has become the world's No. 1 T20I batter in the latest ICC Men's Player Rankings, replacing teammate Abhishek Sharma after the latter's nearly year-long reign at the top. The latest rankings, released by the International Cricket Council (ICC) on Wednesday, also saw Australia's Travis Head rise to the No. 1 position among Test batters for the first time in his career, while India's Jasprit Bumrah reclaimed the top spot in the Test bowling rankings.
Kishan's rise to the summit follows a series of consistent performances in international cricket, highlighted by his impressive campaign at the ICC Men's T20 World Cup earlier this year. The left-handed batter scored 317 runs at a strike rate of nearly 200 during the tournament, including a match-winning innings against Pakistan that earned him the Player of the Match award. His performances helped him achieve a career-best rating and move ahead of Abhishek Sharma, who now sits second in the rankings, just seven rating points behind. Kishan also became only the fourth Indian men's batter, after Virat Kohli and Suryakumar Yadav, to reach the No. 1 position in the ICC T20I batting rankings.
The latest rankings also reflected gains for several players following India's T20I series against Ireland. Ireland captain Lorcan Tucker climbed four places to joint 77th, while Ross Adair moved up six positions to 84th among T20I batters. Ireland left-arm spinner Matthew Humphreys rose to 25th in the T20I bowling rankings after taking four wickets in the series, achieving a career-best rating. In the all-rounders' list, India's Shivam Dube advanced three places to seventh, while Ireland's Gareth Delany and Harry Tector also registered significant improvements.

In the Test rankings, Australia's Travis Head overtook England's Harry Brook to become the world's top-ranked Test batter after the latest round of matches. Brook slipped to second following modest returns against New Zealand, while England's Joe Root dropped to third. India's pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah regained sole possession of the No. 1 Test bowling ranking after New Zealand fast bowler Matt Henry slipped to second. The rankings also reflected New Zealand's dominant performance against England, with Rachin Ravindra, Daryl Mitchell, Devon Conway and Tom Latham all making notable gains in the batting charts.
Several bowlers and all-rounders also improved their standings following recent Test matches. New Zealand pacer Nathan Smith climbed eight places to 38th in the bowling rankings, while England captain Ben Stokes finished his international career ranked third among Test all-rounders after announcing his retirement during the Nottingham Test. West Indies pacers Shamar Joseph and Kemar Roach were also rewarded for their performances in the victory over Sri Lanka in Antigua, moving up to joint 14th and 17th, respectively. The latest ICC rankings underline the impact of recent international performances and set the stage for further competition as teams prepare for upcoming bilateral series and global tournaments.
