BCCI Rest Jasprit Bumrah For Afghanistan Series, Sets Return Timeline

BCCI rests Jasprit Bumrah for Afghanistan series, confirms his return timeline.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced key squad changes for India’s upcoming home series against Afghanistan, including the rest of pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah and the removal of wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant from leadership duties and the ODI setup. The Afghanistan tour will feature a one-off Test match in Mullanpur starting June 6, followed by a three-match ODI series scheduled across Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Chennai from June 14.

The selection committee, headed by Ajit Agarkar, said the decisions were taken as part of workload management and team restructuring ahead of a packed international calendar. According to Agarkar, Bumrah has been rested from both the Test and ODI assignments to manage his fitness and long-term availability. He confirmed that the fast bowler is expected to return for India’s tour of England later in the summer, emphasising that the move is part of a planned workload strategy rather than any injury concern.

Senior all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has also been rested from the one-off Test match, while KL Rahul has been appointed vice-captain of the Test side led by Shubman Gill. The ODI squad will continue under Gill’s captaincy, with Shreyas Iyer serving as his deputy. The selection panel also introduced several new faces across both formats. Manav Suthar and Gurnoor Brar received maiden Test call-ups, while Prince Yadav was named in the ODI squad.
