India Announce Squad Changes For IND vs AFG Series With New Debutants Included

India reshuffles squad for Afghanistan series amid key injuries.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced India’s squads for the upcoming multi-format series against Afghanistan, with several notable selection changes, fresh inclusions, and leadership adjustments ahead of the tour. The announcement was made following a meeting in Guwahati, attended by BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and chairman of selectors Ajit Agarkar.

One of the key decisions was the replacement of Rishabh Pant as India’s Test vice-captain, with KL Rahul elevated to the role. The move comes as part of a broader reshuffle in leadership responsibilities within the Test setup. The squads also reflect workload management for senior players, with Jasprit Bumrah and Ravindra Jadeja being rested from both the Test and ODI series.

The selectors named four uncapped players across formats, handing maiden call-ups to Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey, Manav Suthar, and Prince Yadav. Gurnoor Brar earned selection in both the Test and ODI squads, while left-arm spinners Harsh Dubey and Manav Suthar were included in the Test squad. Delhi pacer Prince Yadav was picked for the ODI side, marking a significant opportunity for emerging domestic performers to step onto the international stage.

The ODI squad retains senior players Rohit Sharma and Hardik Pandya, though their participation is subject to fitness assessments. The selection committee’s approach reflects a balance between experience and youth as India prepares for a tightly scheduled series beginning June 6, with a one-off Test followed by three ODIs across multiple venues.

The India Test squad features Shubman Gill as captain, alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul (vice-captain), Sai Sudharsan, Rishabh Pant, Devdutt Padikkal, Nitish Kumar Reddy, Washington Sundar, Kuldeep Yadav, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Manav Suthar, Gurnoor Brar, Harsh Dubey, and Dhruv Jurel. The ODI series will be played in Dharamsala, Lucknow, and Chennai, marking an important transitional phase as India integrates new talent into its senior setup while managing the workload of established players.
