Bangladesh Unleashes Fresh Talent—Two Uncapped Stars Named for Crucial Pakistan Test Match

Bangladesh names a 15-player squad for the Pakistan Test, including two uncapped players, starting May 8.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) on Sunday officially announced a 15-member squad for the first Test match against Pakistan, which is scheduled to begin on May 8 at the iconic Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka. This fixture marks the beginning of an important phase for both teams as part of the 2025–27 ICC World Test Championship cycle, where every match carries significant weight in the race for the final standings. The announcement has drawn attention as Bangladesh looks to strengthen its red-ball structure while competing against a strong and experienced Pakistani side on home soil.

Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue to lead the Bangladesh Test team as captain, with Mehidy Hasan Miraz appointed as his deputy for the upcoming series. The leadership pairing is expected to play a crucial role in balancing the side’s approach, especially as Bangladesh aims to improve consistency in Test cricket. With a blend of senior players and emerging talent, the management appears focused on building a squad capable of handling both pressure situations and long-format challenges against top-tier opposition like Pakistan.

One of the most talked-about aspects of the squad announcement is the inclusion of two uncapped players, Tanzid Hasan and Amite Hasan, signalling the selectors’ intent to invest in young talent for the future. Their selection suggests a long-term vision where promising domestic performers are being gradually introduced to the international Test arena. This move also highlights Bangladesh’s ongoing transition phase, where the team is looking to strengthen its bench depth while ensuring competition for places remains strong across all departments.

Tanzid Hasan, in particular, brings considerable white-ball experience into the squad despite being uncapped in Test cricket, having already represented Bangladesh in 34 ODIs and 45 T20Is. Over his limited-overs career so far, he has accumulated more than 1,900 runs, showcasing his ability to perform at the international level. His potential inclusion in the playing XI could provide Bangladesh with a dynamic batting option, and this Test series offers him an opportunity to prove his adaptability in the longer format of the game.

The upcoming first Test against Pakistan is expected to be a crucial and competitive encounter as both sides begin their journey in the new World Test Championship cycle with the aim of securing early momentum. For Bangladesh, the challenge will be to combine youth and experience effectively while maintaining discipline across all departments of the game, including batting resilience, bowling consistency, and fielding sharpness. A strong performance at home could set the tone for their campaign, making this series opener a key test of their progress in red-ball cricket.
