Axar Patel Opens Up Ahead Of 100th T20I Match On England Tour

Axar Patel gears up for 100th T20I appearance.

Indian all-rounder Axar Patel has said completing 100 T20 International appearances for India is a moment he never imagined when he made his debut in the format. Ahead of his landmark match against England, Axar reflected on his decade-long journey in international cricket and credited his teammates, coaches and family for supporting him throughout his career.

Axar is set to play his 100th T20I match during India’s ongoing tour of England. The milestone comes shortly after he achieved another major feat by completing 100 wickets in T20 internationals during the second T20I of the series. Calling the England tour special, Axar said reaching both milestones in the same series has made the occasion even more memorable.

Speaking in a video shared by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI), Axar said that playing even one match for India is a dream for any cricketer. He added that personal achievements are never the result of individual effort alone and that his journey has involved contributions from his teammates, coaches and family members.

Recalling his career progression, Axar described his journey as a roller-coaster ride filled with challenges, improvements and valuable lessons. He said that during the first five to six years of his T20I career, he played only around 15 or 16 matches, but his appearances increased significantly from 2021 onwards as he became a regular member of India’s white-ball setup.

Axar also reflected on India’s recent success in T20 cricket, highlighting the team’s World Cup victories in 2024 and 2026. He said reaching his 100th match brought back memories of the highs and lows of his career, adding that every experience helped him improve as a player and maintain focus on the process rather than just milestones.

The left-arm spinner said he has become calmer and more mature compared with the player who made his debut in 2015. Axar recalled taking three wickets in his first T20I match and explained that the biggest change over the years has been his ability to handle pressure better. He said learning from mistakes and continuously improving have been the key factors behind his long international career.
