Nishant Kumar Joins JD(U) In Patna; Will Work Under Father Nitish Kumar’s Guidance
Nishant Kumar formally joins JD(U) in Patna, promising to work under his father Nitish Kumar’s guidance.
Nishant Kumar, son of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, formally joined the Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) on Sunday at the party headquarters in Patna, marking his official entry into state politics after years away from the public eye.
The induction ceremony saw Nishant, an engineering graduate in his 40s, take membership from JD(U) National Working President Sanjay Jha in the presence of senior leaders, including Union Minister Rajiv Ranjan Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Chaudhary. A large number of party workers also attended the event.
The timing of Nishant’s induction comes just days after Nitish Kumar filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha, prompting speculation about a possible generational shift within the party. JD(U) workers welcomed Nishant with slogans such as “Yuva soch, majboot sankalp” (think young with strong determination), signaling hopes that his entry may bring a focus on youth-oriented initiatives.

Addressing party members, Nishant thanked the leadership and supporters for their trust. He said he would strive to live up to expectations and work under his father’s guidance. “The people of the state will never forget my father’s contributions to Bihar’s development over the past 20 years,” he added, referring to Nitish Kumar’s decision to move to the Rajya Sabha.
Although Nitish Kumar was not present at the ceremony, political observers view Nishant’s induction as a significant moment for JD(U), potentially marking the beginning of a leadership transition within the party. The event highlights the party’s efforts to groom the next generation of leaders while maintaining continuity in its organizational structure.
