Dube posted a series of pictures and a video on Instagram in which he placed his winner’s medal around his father’s neck, calling him “the real hero of my life.”
Dube played a pivotal role in India’s third T20 World Cup triumph, particularly in the final against New Zealand, where he scored 26 runs off just eight balls. Throughout the tournament, he contributed with both bat and ball, helping India deliver a dominant campaign. After the historic win, Dube returned to Mumbai with his wife to celebrate with family, culminating in the heartfelt medal ceremony with his father.
In his Instagram post, Dube’s father, dressed in an Indian jersey, looked visibly proud as he held the medal. The post quickly went viral, with fans across social media praising the emotional gesture and Dube’s humility despite his sporting achievements.

Earlier, Dube faced an unusual travel challenge while returning home from Ahmedabad. With all flights to Mumbai fully booked, he opted to travel by 3rd AC train along with his family. “There were no flights available, so I decided to take an early morning train from Ahmedabad to Mumbai. We could have gone by road, but the train was quicker,” Dube told The Indian Express.
To avoid drawing attention during the journey, Dube wore a cap, mask, and full-sleeved T-shirt, and chose a 5:10 a.m. departure when the platform would be less crowded. “I told my wife I would wait in the car until five minutes before the train's departure, then rush to board,” he said, reflecting his down-to-earth nature despite being a World Cup champion.
