Cricketer Prithvi Shaw Fined in Molestation Scandal
Shaw skips court reply, faces Rs 100 penalty.
Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw has been fined Rs 100 by the Dindoshi sessions court for failing to submit a reply in a molestation case filed by social media influencer Sapna Gill. The controversy, stemming from a 2023 altercation in Mumbai, has drawn significant attention as Shaw faces accusations of assault and molestation, with the next hearing scheduled for December 16, 2025.
The case began when Gill alleged that Shaw refused to take selfies with her, snatched her friend’s phone, and assaulted and molested her when she intervened. According to police reports, the incident escalated after an argument between Shaw and Gill’s friend, Shobit Thakur, as Shaw was leaving with his friend Ashish Surendra Yadav. Gill approached the police, but no FIR was filed, prompting her to challenge the decision through a criminal revision petition in April 2024.
The magistrate court had previously ordered the SantaCruz police to conduct a preliminary enquiry instead of registering an FIR, a decision Gill contested. Shaw was directed to file a reply to the allegations but failed to do so, leading to the recent fine. The court, however, granted him another opportunity to respond, imposing the nominal Rs 100 penalty, as reported by TimesNow.

Gill’s lawyer, Advocate Ali Kaashif Khan, accused Shaw of consistently dodging the judicial process. “This has been his regular way of handling the case despite being summoned multiple times,” Khan stated, highlighting Shaw’s alleged reluctance to engage with the legal proceedings.
The case has sparked debate online, with many questioning the cricketer’s conduct and the police’s initial inaction. As the investigation continues, the court’s upcoming hearing will determine the next steps in this high-profile legal battle, casting a shadow over Shaw’s career.
