Z+ Gone, Y Returned: RJD Forced To Guard Lalu Yadav Itself After Security Stripped

RJD linked security changes to the ongoing bungalow controversy.

A fresh political controversy has erupted in Bihar after the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) announced that it would arrange its own security for party chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and his family following a downgrade in their government-provided security cover. The party alleged that the move was politically motivated and accused the state government of compromising the safety of its senior leaders.

The dispute intensified after security arrangements for members of the Yadav family were reportedly scaled back. Former Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi is said to have lost her Z+ security cover, while other family members were assigned lower categories of protection. Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav also declined to accept the Y-category security cover offered to him.

RJD leaders strongly criticised the decision, claiming the security downgrade posed a risk to the family. Party representatives alleged that the government was deliberately weakening protection for opposition leaders and argued that the move reflected political vendetta rather than a routine administrative review. They further stated that the party would deploy its own personnel to ensure the safety of senior leaders.

The controversy comes against the backdrop of an ongoing dispute over the government bungalow at 10, Circular Road in Patna. The residence has long been associated with the Yadav family, particularly Rabri Devi, who served as chief minister of Bihar. The state government has reportedly directed her to vacate the property after allotting it to minister Nand Kishore Ram.

The bungalow issue has become another flashpoint in the increasingly bitter political exchanges between the ruling establishment and the RJD. Party leaders have accused the government of targeting the Yadav family through administrative actions, while government representatives maintain that official decisions regarding residences and security are taken according to established rules and procedures.

With both the security downgrade and bungalow dispute unfolding simultaneously, tensions between the opposition and the state government are expected to remain high. The developments are likely to fuel further political debate in Bihar as the RJD continues to challenge the government's decisions and seek greater protection for its top leadership.
