Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi Send Back Security Personnel After Bihar Withdraws Z-Plus Cover

Lalu Yadav and Rabri Devi send back security personnel after Bihar withdraws Z-plus cover.

A political row erupted in Bihar after the state government withdrew the Z-plus security cover of Rashtriya Janata Dal chief Lalu Prasad Yadav and former chief minister Rabri Devi. The veteran leaders reportedly expressed displeasure over the decision and removed the newly deployed security personnel assigned outside their residence at 10 Circular Road in Patna. The move comes after a review of security arrangements provided to VIPs across the state.

According to officials, the Bihar government replaced the top-category security cover with a revised arrangement that included personnel from the Bihar Special Armed Police, bodyguards from the district force, and access to a pilot vehicle and bulletproof car. However, the new deployment was not accepted by the RJD leaders, who sent the security staff back from their residence.

The development also triggered a reaction from Leader of Opposition Tejashwi Yadav, who reportedly returned his Y-category security cover. RJD spokesperson Shakti Yadav indicated that additional party leaders could take similar steps in protest. The Y-category security cover of Tej Pratap Yadav was also withdrawn as part of the revised security review.

The security controversy comes amid another dispute involving Rabri Devi’s official residence. The Bihar government recently allotted the 10 Circular Road bungalow to state minister Nand Kishor Ram through an order issued by the Building Construction Department. Authorities have asked Rabri Devi to vacate the government accommodation, but she has so far refused to do so.

Speaking to reporters after returning to Patna from Delhi, Rabri Devi said she would not leave the residence voluntarily and challenged the government to evict her by force. Her remarks have further intensified the political confrontation between the ruling establishment and the RJD. The twin disputes over security cover and government accommodation are expected to remain major political flashpoints in Bihar in the coming days.
