Volodymyr Zelensky Says Ukraine Maintains Ceasefire Proposal To Russia
Zelensky reiterates Ukraine’s ceasefire proposal, urging Russia to engage as conflict drags on.
Volodymyr Zelenskyy has reaffirmed his commitment to a ceasefire proposal offered to Russia, saying Kyiv remains ready to halt strikes if Moscow agrees to stop targeting Ukraine’s energy infrastructure, even as fighting continues to intensify.
In a recent address, Zelenskyy said the proposal had been formally conveyed to Russia through the United States, stressing that Ukraine is prepared to respond in kind if Russian attacks cease. He described the initiative as a practical step toward reducing hostilities, particularly focusing on protecting critical energy systems that have been repeatedly targeted during the conflict.
The proposal also included a temporary truce during the upcoming Orthodox Easter, a significant religious period observed in both countries. Zelenskyy emphasized that such a pause could serve as a humanitarian gesture and a confidence-building measure, potentially opening the door for broader peace negotiations.

However, Ukrainian officials say Russia has so far shown little willingness to accept the offer. Instead, recent days have seen renewed attacks, including drone strikes on key Ukrainian cities and infrastructure. Zelenskyy pointed to these developments as evidence that Moscow is not currently engaging with ceasefire efforts in good faith.
Russia, for its part, has indicated that it prefers a comprehensive peace agreement rather than a limited or temporary truce. The Kremlin has previously argued that short-term ceasefires do not address the underlying issues of the conflict, which has now entered its fifth year with no clear resolution in sight.
Zelenskyy also highlighted ongoing discussions with U.S. officials regarding long-term security guarantees, which he described as essential for achieving lasting peace. He reiterated that any meaningful ceasefire must be accompanied by firm commitments to prevent future aggression and ensure Ukraine’s sovereignty.
As the war continues, analysts say the gap between both sides’ positions remains wide, with ceasefire proposals repeatedly overshadowed by ongoing military escalation. While Ukraine maintains its readiness for conditional de-escalation, the absence of mutual agreement suggests that a near-term breakthrough remains uncertain.
