Woman Arrested At Lucknow Metro Station After 53 Cartridges Recovered
Security scan reveals 53 live cartridges in woman’s bag at Lucknow metro station.
A 43-year-old woman was arrested at a metro station in Lucknow after security personnel recovered live cartridges from her bag during routine screening, police officials said. The incident occurred at the city’s Badshahnagar Metro Station, raising concerns over security protocols in public transport systems.
According to police, the woman, identified as Pratibha Pal, was intercepted on April 5 after her bag was flagged during an X-ray scan at the station. Security staff noticed suspicious objects inside the bag and alerted authorities, who then conducted a physical inspection. The search led to the recovery of a significant quantity of ammunition.
Officials said that 53 live cartridges and 10 spent cartridge casings were found in her possession. The woman was unable to produce any valid documents or license to justify carrying the ammunition, prompting immediate action by the police.

Further investigation revealed that the accused is the wife of a deceased Uttar Pradesh Police head constable. During questioning, she reportedly failed to clearly explain the origin or purpose of the cartridges. Police have initiated a probe to determine whether the ammunition belonged to her late husband or if there are other links that need to be examined.
A case has been registered against her under relevant provisions of the Arms Act at the Mahanagar police station. Authorities said the recovery was made following standard security procedures, highlighting the importance of vigilance in preventing potential threats in crowded public spaces.
The incident has once again brought attention to security checks at metro stations, which serve as critical infrastructure in urban areas. Officials maintain that strict enforcement of screening measures is essential to ensure passenger safety, while investigations continue to ascertain the full circumstances surrounding the case.
