UGC Warns Students: Degrees From These 32 Fake Universities Have Zero Legal Validity

UGC warns that degrees from all 32 flagged institutions carry no legal validity for jobs or higher study.

The University Grants Commission (UGC) has identified 32 fake universities operating across India, warning students that degrees from these institutions are invalid for employment or higher studies. The Commission emphasised that none of these entities have recognition from the Central or State Governments. Students are advised to verify an institution’s status before admission. The notice cites Sections 2(f) and 3 of the UGC Act to underline the legal invalidity of such degrees. This move aims to protect students from fraudulent educational entities.

Delhi tops the list with 12 fake universities, followed by Uttar Pradesh with 4, while other states have 1–2 each. The prevalence of unrecognised universities in the national capital has raised concerns over student exploitation. Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Puducherry, and West Bengal have two each. Arunachal Pradesh, Haryana, Jharkhand, and Rajasthan have one each. The list highlights the need for stricter monitoring and awareness campaigns.

Some notable fake universities in Delhi include World Peace of United Nations University (WPUNU), Institute of Management and Engineering, and Vocational University. Others flagged are ADR-Centric Juridical University, Indian Institute of Science and Engineering, and Adhyatmik Vishwavidyalaya. These institutions often claim impressive names to mislead students. UGC warns that their degrees hold no legal validity and cannot be used for jobs or further studies.

Other states also feature fake institutions: Andhra Pradesh has Christ New Testament Deemed University and Bible Open University of India. Kerala has the International Islamic University of Prophetic Medicine and St John’s University. Maharashtra hosts Raja Arabic University and National Backward Krushi Vidyapeeth. These entities operate without government approval, misleading students and parents.

The UGC’s alert underlines the importance of checking recognition status on official platforms before enrolling. Students can access the UGC list of recognised universities online to confirm authenticity. Awareness drives and vigilance are crucial to prevent exploitation by fake educational bodies. Authorities are likely to increase monitoring and take action against fraudulent operations. Parents and students are urged to stay cautious to safeguard their academic and professional future.
