Trinamool Violence Escalates: Police Arrest 4 Workers Ahead of Final Election Phase

Bengal police arrest 4 Trinamool workers after pre-election violence near police station.

Tensions flared in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district ahead of polling for the second and final phase of elections, after police arrested four workers linked to the ruling Trinamool Congress in connection with alleged violence outside a police station in Jagaddal. The incident comes amid an already charged political atmosphere in the region, with security heightened across sensitive areas.

According to police sources, the arrests were made on Monday morning following raids conducted at the residences of around 15 individuals accused of involvement in the violence. The arrested individuals have been identified as Koushik Das (27), Sikander Prasad (39), Gopal Routh, and Shyamdev Shaw (55). Officials said that during the operation, one of the accused was found hiding under a cot, while several others managed to flee their homes as the police arrived.

The violence reportedly broke out on Sunday night between supporters of the Trinamool Congress and the opposition BJP in Jagaddal, escalating tensions just hours before a scheduled high-profile political rally in nearby Barrackpore. The incident has further intensified the already competitive political environment in the region ahead of the crucial polling phase.

Authorities have increased security deployment in Jagaddal and surrounding areas, including Barrackpore, to prevent further clashes and ensure peaceful conduct of elections. Additional forces have been stationed at sensitive locations, and monitoring has been tightened as officials work to maintain law and order during the final phase of voting preparations.

Police have stated that investigations are ongoing and further arrests cannot be ruled out as they continue to identify those involved in the clashes. The situation remains under close watch as political parties trade allegations over the incident while election campaigning reaches its final stage.
