Tamil Nadu Youth Congress Seeks Ban on Sivakarthikeyan’s 'Parasakthi'

Youth Congress slams film for anti-Hindu bias and historical distortions.

The Tamil Nadu Youth Congress has demanded an immediate ban on actor Sivakarthikeyan’s newly released film Parasakthi, accusing it of being a pro-DMK production that distorts historical events to malign the Congress party. Senior vice president Arun Bhaskar described the movie, which revolves around the 1960s anti-Hindi agitations and student revolution, as carrying a pronounced pro-Tamil and anti-Hindu stance.

Bhaskar highlighted several alleged fabrications in the film, particularly scenes related to the 1965 language controversy. He claimed the movie falsely depicts that post office forms were mandated to be filled only in Hindi nationwide, a portrayal he termed a complete fabrication designed to tarnish the Congress government’s image. The censor board had already imposed 25 cuts on the film, with certain sequences explicitly labelled as fictional.

A key point of contention involves a portrayed meeting between Sivakarthikeyan’s character and former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in Coimbatore on February 12, 1965, to oppose Hindi imposition. Bhaskar asserted that Indira Gandhi never visited Coimbatore on that date and that no such interaction occurred. He further condemned scenes showing a burning train falling in front of her and her accepting signatures against Hindi imposition, calling them utterly baseless and disconnected from historical reality.

The Youth Congress leader also objected to the film’s climax, which reportedly uses real photographs of Indira Gandhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri, and K Kamaraj while levelling the grave accusation that the Congress shot and killed over 200 Tamil people in Pollachi. Bhaskar insisted there is no evidence whatsoever to substantiate this claim, describing it as a deliberate and serious distortion of facts aimed at defaming the party.

Bhaskar strongly condemned Parasakthi as an intentional misrepresentation of history and urged the immediate removal of contentious scenes along with a public apology from the production team. He warned of strict legal action if the demands are not met and called on all Congress workers to protest against the film. Directed by Sudha Kongara Prasad and featuring Sivakarthikeyan, Ravi Mohan, Atharvaa, and Sreeleela, Parasakthi, released on January 10, has drawn mixed critical and audience responses.
