Seconds of Chaos, Hours of Rescue: What Led to Telangana’s Deadly Bus-Truck Collision

A speeding truck on the wrong side collides with a TSRTC bus in Ranga Reddy, killing 24 people.

At least 24 people were killed and several others were injured in a tragic road accident in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district on Monday morning when a speeding tipper truck collided head-on with a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus near Mirzaguda village in Chevella mandal. The bus, belonging to the Tandur depot, was carrying about 70 passengers and heading to Hyderabad when the truck, reportedly travelling on the wrong side of the road, struck it with great force and overturned onto the bus. The impact of the collision was so severe that several passengers were trapped under the debris.

According to police officials, the truck was carrying a load of gravel and was moving at high speed when the driver lost control. Both the bus driver and the truck driver were among those killed in the crash. The deceased also included women and a ten-month-old infant with its mother. Eyewitnesses described the aftermath as horrific, with survivors crying for help and local residents rushing to assist before rescue teams arrived. Emergency personnel deployed three JCB machines to remove the wreckage and retrieve passengers trapped inside the mangled bus.

Authorities immediately transported the injured to the government hospital in Chevella, while those in critical condition were referred to advanced medical facilities in Hyderabad. Police warned that the death toll could rise, as several victims remain in serious condition. The accident caused heavy traffic congestion along the Hyderabad–Bijapur highway, with vehicles backed up for several kilometres on the Chevella–Vikarabad route. Preliminary investigations suggest overspeeding and loss of control by the truck driver as the primary causes of the accident.
