BRS Moves to Bar CM Revanth Reddy from Jubilee Hills Bypoll, Alleges Election Code Breach

BRS accuses CM Revanth Reddy of violating election rules in Jubilee Hills bypoll, seeks ban from campaigning.

The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has lodged a complaint with the Telangana Chief Electoral Officer, seeking the disqualification of Chief Minister Revanth Reddy from campaigning in the Jubilee Hills Assembly by-election. The party alleges that Reddy grossly violated the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) by making direct promises to cine workers during a meeting in Yousufguda, describing it as a “corrupt electoral practice” intended to influence voters.

Led by former minister Gangula Kamalakar, a BRS delegation demanded immediate action, including the filing of a criminal case against Revanth Reddy and the removal of his name from the Congress’s list of star campaigners. The party also urged the Election Commission to add the expenses of the meeting to the election spending of Congress candidate Naveen Yadav, accusing the ruling party of using state machinery for political gain.

The BRS’s complaint comes as part of its sustained attack on the Congress over alleged misuse of power and electoral malpractice in the constituency. Naveen Yadav, the Congress nominee, already faces a police case for voter inducement after he was reportedly seen distributing laminated copies of voter ID cards to residents. The police have charged him under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Representation of the People Act.

Meanwhile, the BRS and the BJP have accused the Congress of manipulating voter rolls by enrolling duplicate and fake voters. BRS working president KT Rama Rao recently presented data highlighting multiple voter IDs linked to single individuals in Jubilee Hills, alleging “electoral fraud on a massive scale.”

The Congress, however, has brushed off the allegations as politically motivated. Party insiders maintain that the laminated voter ID copies were part of a “voter awareness drive” and not an attempt at inducement. Despite the growing controversy, the Congress campaign continues in full swing, with senior leaders assigned to polling booths and local voter outreach as the bypoll battle in the high-profile Jubilee Hills seat intensifies.
