Siddaramaiah Holds Breakfast Meet Amid Karnataka Leadership Change Speculation

Karnataka CM Siddaramaiah holds key meeting amid leadership change speculation.

Karnataka’s political landscape witnessed heightened activity on Thursday as Chief Minister Siddaramaiah convened a breakfast meeting with senior Congress leaders at his official residence ‘Kaveri’ in Bengaluru. The gathering came amid intensified speculation over a possible leadership change in the state government, which has completed nearly three years in office. Several ministers arrived at the residence under tight security arrangements, reflecting the sensitive political atmosphere.

Key state ministers, including Priyank Kharge, KJ George, MB Patil, Ramalinga Reddy, and HK Patil, were among those present at the meeting. Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar also attended, adding further significance to the discussions. The meeting has drawn considerable attention as it comes at a time when internal deliberations within the ruling Congress party appear to be accelerating over the future leadership structure in the state.

Senior Congress leader G Parameshwara stated that the breakfast meeting was primarily intended for the Chief Minister to thank his colleagues for their cooperation during his tenure. However, he also clarified that there was no official confirmation regarding Siddaramaiah taking up any role in Delhi, adding that such decisions would ultimately rest with the party high command. His remarks did little to dispel ongoing speculation about an impending political transition.

Meanwhile, reports indicated that Siddaramaiah has sought an appointment with Karnataka Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot, reportedly to tender his resignation. However, the Governor left Bengaluru late Wednesday night and travelled to Mumbai following a family health emergency, delaying any immediate constitutional developments related to the speculation. This has further added uncertainty to the timeline of any leadership change.

Adding to the evolving situation, Siddaramaiah is expected to travel to Delhi later in the day to meet the Congress leadership at the All India Congress Committee (AICC). The meeting is likely to focus on internal discussions regarding a possible transition formula and the future direction of the state government. Party sources suggest that consultations at the central level will play a decisive role in any final decision.

The developments have triggered widespread political attention in Karnataka, with the Congress high command expected to weigh multiple factors before arriving at a conclusion. While no official announcement has been made, the series of high-level meetings signals that key decisions regarding the state’s leadership could be imminent.
