Rajasthan Congress Faces Factional Rift Over District President Appointments

The Rajasthan Congress has plunged into disarray as the process to appoint district presidents under Rahul Gandhi’s consultation framework descends into widespread factional conflict. Meetings across more than ten districts witnessed intense confrontations, with supporters of former Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot, Deputy Chief Minister Sachin Pilot, and state president Govind Singh Dotasara openly clashing through heated exchanges, disruptive slogans, and attempts to dominate proceedings. The escalating rivalry has rendered the selection exercise ineffective and raised serious concerns about party unity ahead of crucial electoral challenges.

In several instances, scheduled consultations were abandoned amid chaos, with proposed candidates rejected outright and accusations of manipulation dominating discussions. Party workers in multiple districts reported physical jostling and verbal abuse, prompting intervention from local police in at least two cases. The deteriorating situation compelled the Congress high command to summon 30 state observers to New Delhi for an urgent review with AICC general secretary (Organisation) KC Venugopal. According to sources, the leadership is now exploring alternative mechanisms to restore order and complete appointments without further damage to organizational cohesion.

In a separate development, former minister Rajkumar Sharma has come under scrutiny following a road accident involving his minor son in Jaipur’s Pratap Nagar area. The teenager, driving a high-end Audi, collided with a Swift car, leaving two occupants injured. A widely circulated video shows the youth invoking his father’s political position while allegedly intimidating bystanders and assaulting the victims. Sharma has rejected claims of misconduct, stating that his son merely identified himself to prevent escalation. Authorities have registered a case under relevant sections, including rash driving and voluntary causing hurt, as public outrage grows over perceived privilege.

Meanwhile, the annual Pushkar Cattle Fair has commenced with grandeur, drawing global attention to its display of premium livestock. Leading the spectacle is Nagina, a mare valued at ₹1 crore, sired by the renowned stallion Dilbag. Standing 63.5 inches tall, Nagina has secured victories in four major equine competitions in Punjab. Her upkeep reflects elite standards: a daily intake of 2 to 5 liters of milk, bi-daily therapeutic massages, constant veterinary supervision, and specialized mosquito protection. Another standout is Brahmadev, offspring of Dana—a horse previously acquired by industrialist Mukesh Ambani—further elevating the fair’s status as a showcase of equine excellence and cultural heritage.
