Rahul Gandhi Vows Nationwide Movement Against Vote Theft

Rahul Gandhi accuses BJP and EC of vote theft, vows national movement.

Congress leader and Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, declared that the ongoing Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar will evolve into a nationwide campaign to safeguard the voting rights of Dalits, minorities, and women, which he claims are being undermined by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), and the Election Commission.

Speaking at a public rally in Ara, Bhojpur district, during the third leg of the yatra, Gandhi accused the central government of orchestrating an “attack on the Constitution” through a special intensive revision of electoral rolls in Bihar, labeling it a tactic to manipulate votes.

Gandhi alleged that the BJP and the Election Commission have engaged in “vote chori” (vote stealing) across states like Maharashtra, asserting, “The NDA government succeeded in stealing votes in Maharashtra, but we will not allow the BJP and the EC to steal even a single vote in Bihar.” Holding a copy of the Constitution, he emphasized that voting is a fundamental right guaranteed to all citizens, accusing the Modi government of undermining democracy by stripping people of this right.

The yatra, launched on August 17 from Sasaram, has covered 25 of Bihar’s 38 districts and is set to culminate in a massive procession in Patna on September 1, marching from Gandhi Maidan to Babasaheb Ambedkar’s statue.

The Voter Adhikar Yatra has garnered significant support, with allies like Tejashwi Yadav of the Rashtriya Janata Dal, Dipankar Bhattacharya of CPI-ML Liberation, and Mukesh Sahni of Vikassheel Insan Party joining Gandhi. Senior Congress leader Pawan Khera described the yatra as a “religious pilgrimage” uniting people of all faiths to protect democracy.

Meanwhile, state BJP leaders held a silent protest in Patna, condemning alleged derogatory remarks against Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the yatra in Darbhanga. Gandhi’s campaign, amplified by a widely shared video of the Ara rally, signals a growing movement to challenge perceived electoral malpractices as the Congress pushes for democratic integrity.
