Congress Calls Amit Shah a ‘Weapon of Distraction’

Congress accuses Shah of lying about Rahul Gandhi.

The Congress party launched a scathing attack on Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday, branding him a “Weapon of Mischievous Distraction” and “malicious defamation” for allegedly spreading falsehoods about Rahul Gandhi. The accusations followed Shah’s remarks in Guwahati, where he demanded an apology from Gandhi for alleged abuses hurled at Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his late mother during the Congress-led Voter Adhikar Yatra in Bihar.

Congress general secretary Jairam Ramesh, in a fiery post on X, claimed Shah was “rattled, disturbed, and unnerved” by the overwhelming public response to the Yatra. “The Home Minister is a 2-in-1 WMD, spreading lies about Rahul Gandhi and other leaders,” Ramesh said, dismissing Shah’s allegations as baseless attempts to derail the Yatra’s momentum.

Shah, speaking at an event inaugurating the Brahmaputra wing of the Raj Bhawan in Guwahati, criticized Gandhi’s “Ghuspaithiya Bachao Yatra” (Save Infiltrators Yatra), alleging it aimed to protect the Congress’ vote bank by allowing infiltrators to pollute the electoral system. “Rahul Gandhi’s politics has hit the lowest level. He should apologize to the PM, his late mother, and the nation,” Shah said, referencing a controversial video from Darbhanga where an unidentified speaker allegedly used a Hindi expletive against Modi during the Yatra, attended by Gandhi, Priyanka Vadra, and RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav.

Shah further condemned the Congress for what he called a “decline in public life” by disrespecting Modi’s late mother, describing her as a woman from a humble background who raised a global leader. “The nation watches Congress with disgust,” he added, accusing the party of negative politics and crossing ethical boundaries.

The Congress hit back, asserting that Shah’s remarks were a desperate bid to distract from the Yatra’s focus on voter rights and electoral integrity. The ongoing clash, intensified by the BJP’s earlier attacks over the Darbhanga incident, highlights the deepening political rift as the Yatra gains traction in Bihar, raising questions about electoral fairness and political rhetoric.
