Rahul Gandhi Backs Gujarat Dairy Farmers in Fight Against Low Prices and BJP Grip!

Congress leader Rahul Gandhi pledges solidarity with Gujarat’s dairy farmers, urging a movement to challenge BJP’s control and secure fair milk prices.

Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha, met with dairy farmers and cooperative leaders in Anand, Gujarat, promising unwavering support in their battle for better milk procurement prices and against the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) alleged dominance over the state’s dairy sector.

The meeting followed recent protests outside Sabar Dairy in Himmatnagar, where farmers demanded a 25% price hike, citing financial strain due to low returns. Congress spokesperson Hiren Banker quoted Gandhi as saying that AMUL, originally a farmer-led movement, requires a similar grassroots push to liberate the sector from BJP’s control.

Farmers expressed frustration over the BJP’s influence on Gujarat’s dairy cooperatives, particularly the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), which manages AMUL. They alleged that BJP-aligned agents dictate milk prices and that only party associates secure jobs in the industry, with 17 of 18 district dairy unions under BJP control, except for the Congress-led Kaira District Co-operative. Gandhi encouraged farmers to fight for their rights, assuring them of his full backing in their struggle for fair pricing and autonomy.

The visit, part of a one-day trip to Gujarat, also included Gandhi addressing a training camp for Congress district unit chiefs to bolster the party’s organization ahead of the 2027 Gujarat assembly elections. His engagement underscores growing tensions in the state’s dairy sector, a critical economic lifeline, as farmers seek to reclaim influence from political interference.
