Priyanka Gandhi Declares: Assam CM's 'Pak Link' Attack on Gaurav Gogoi's Family is Wrong Politics
Priyanka Gandhi condemns Assam CM for dragging Gaurav Gogoi's family into Pakistan link allegations.
Congress Leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra on February 20, 2026, condemned Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for dragging the family and children of Congress MP and Assam Pradesh Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi into allegations of "Pakistan links," describing the approach as "wrong politics."
Speaking to reporters in Guwahati during her visit to the state, Priyanka Gandhi Vadra asserted that such personal attacks cross ethical boundaries in political discourse. She stated, "The attacks on Gaurav and his family are the wrong politics. Nobody should attack the family and children (of a political leader)." She emphasized that targeting relatives, including children, is unacceptable regardless of political differences.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra highlighted a contrast in political styles, noting there are two types of leaders: those who practice positive, inclusive politics and others who resort to polarisation and personal attacks. She described Gaurav Gogoi as pursuing the "politics of love," suggesting that the intensity of the allegations against him and his family indicates he is on the "right path," which has rattled the ruling side. She framed the criticism as a "badge of honour" for Gogoi.

The remarks come amid an ongoing controversy sparked by Chief Minister Sarma's repeated claims that Gaurav Gogoi, his wife Elizabeth Colburn Gogoi, and a Pakistani national share connections posing national security concerns. These allegations, based on findings from a state-level Special Investigation Team, have been part of a prolonged political confrontation in Assam, with Gogoi dismissing them as baseless and politically motivated.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra urged focus on substantive issues affecting Assam, such as youth unemployment, women's empowerment, corruption, and development, rather than personal smears. She expressed confidence that the people of Assam recognize the nature of such tactics and will respond accordingly in the political arena.
No immediate response from Chief Minister Sarma or the Assam government was available following Priyanka Gandhi Vadra's statements. The exchange underscores the heated pre-election atmosphere in the state, where personal and ideological clashes have intensified between the ruling BJP and the opposition Congress.
