Pabitra Margherita Terms Priyanka Gandhi Political Tourist, Showcases New Assam Achievements
Pabitra Margherita brands Priyanka Gandhi a political tourist while highlighting Assam's major progress under BJP rule.
Union Minister Pabitra Margherita on Thursday launched a sharp political attack on Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, calling her a “political tourist” during her visit to Assam. In a post on social media platform X, Margherita said Gandhi should take time to witness what he described as the sweeping transformation of the state under BJP governance, contrasting it with what he termed as “Congress-era stagnation.”
Highlighting industrial progress, Margherita pointed to the ₹27,000-crore semiconductor facility coming up at Jagiroad, calling it a milestone in Assam’s emergence as a hub for advanced technology. He noted that despite earlier skepticism from Congress leaders, the project signals growing investor confidence and positions Assam as a key player in India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
On employment, the Union Minister claimed that more than 1.5 lakh government jobs have been generated over the past five years through transparent recruitment drives. He alleged that previous Congress regimes fostered corruption in public hiring, referring to what he described as “job markets,” and said the current administration has restored fairness and meritocracy.

Margherita also emphasized improvements in law and order, stating that families across Assam are experiencing lasting peace after decades marked by insurgency and instability. He highlighted land rights reforms benefiting nearly 3.5 lakh tea garden families across over 850 estates, as well as a sharp decline in rhino poaching at Kaziranga National Park due to strengthened conservation measures.
The Minister further cited strategic and cultural achievements, including the Emergency Landing Facility on the Moran Highway for fighter jets, the upcoming twin-tube tunnel between Gohpur and Numaligarh, and the clearance of encroachments at Batadrava Than. He also lauded the recent UNESCO World Heritage inscription of Charaideo Moidam, calling it global recognition of Assam’s rich legacy. Meanwhile, Priyanka Gandhi visited the revered Kamakhya Temple atop Nilachal Hill and is scheduled to hold marathon meetings with Congress leaders ahead of the high-stakes Assembly polls.
