PM Modi To Launch BJP's Bengal Poll Campaign From Cooch Behar

PM Modi will address Bijoy Sankalpa Sabha as BJP intensifies Bengal poll outreach.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to visit Cooch Behar district on Sunday, April 5, to launch the Bharatiya Janata Party’s campaign for the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections. Modi will address the BJP’s ‘Bijoy Sankalpa Sabha’ at the historic Ras Mela grounds in the afternoon, marking the beginning of an intensified political outreach in north Bengal. The event aims to consolidate grassroots support in a region that has emerged as a key electoral battleground and a growing saffron stronghold over recent years.

During his rally, Modi is expected to outline the party’s vision for a “developed West Bengal” and highlight issues raised in the BJP’s recently released ‘People’s Chargesheet’ against the ruling Trinamool Congress. Key topics will include governance, law and order, alleged corruption, and the party’s promise to restore public trust in state institutions. Party leaders describe the event as a platform to emphasise a transition from fear-driven governance to a future rooted in public confidence and accountability.

This will be Modi’s first election rally in West Bengal since the official announcement of the assembly polls and marks his fourth public address at the Ras Mela grounds. He previously held rallies at the same venue during his campaigns for the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, as well as the 2021 assembly polls. The Prime Minister’s address is expected to set the tone for the BJP’s campaign narrative ahead of the two-phase elections scheduled for April 23 and April 29, with vote counting on May 4.

According to a BJP statement, Modi’s rally aims to dismantle the “rule of fear” in the state and reinforce a “pledge of trust” through promises to end syndicate raj and cut-money culture. The event also seeks to revive the cultural heritage of West Bengal, inspired by Rabindranath Tagore, and assert the party’s commitment to security, growth, and good governance. The leadership described the campaign launch as a definitive push to build public confidence ahead of the polls.

The April 5 rally will be followed by a series of public meetings, roadshows, and organisational programmes by senior BJP leaders across the state. These activities form part of the party’s final efforts to secure a decisive mandate in West Bengal, with a special focus on north Bengal, where the BJP had significant success in previous assembly and parliamentary elections. Observers note that development projects and initiatives, including the Rs 1,010-crore city gas distribution scheme in Cooch Behar and Alipurduar, have strengthened the party’s political footprint in the region.

Modi had last visited West Bengal on March 14, addressing a rally at Brigade Parade Ground in Kolkata and inaugurating development projects worth approximately Rs 18,680 crore as part of the BJP’s ‘Poriborton Yatra’. The renewed focus on north Bengal, including strategic emphasis on Cooch Behar, reflects the party’s broader electoral strategy to combine development initiatives with grassroots mobilisation, setting the stage for a high-stakes assembly poll contest.
