Amit Shah's Bengal Chargesheet: Trinamool Fires Back With "Trial Over" Warning
Amit Shah targets Trinamool with Bengal chargesheet ahead of April assembly elections.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Saturday launched a sharp attack on the All India Trinamool Congress government in West Bengal, releasing what he described as a “chargesheet” against the ruling party ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections. He framed the election as a choice between “fear and trust,” intensifying the political battle in the state.
Addressing a press conference, the senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of relying on “lies, intimidation and violence” to sustain her political position. He also criticised her campaign style, alleging that she frequently plays the “victim card” during elections to gain public sympathy.
Shah emphasised the strategic importance of West Bengal as a border state, claiming that national security is being threatened by infiltration. He alleged that illegal entrants are being allowed to settle and even vote, accusing the Trinamool Congress of nurturing them as a vote bank. According to him, such infiltration not only affects security but also impacts employment opportunities for local youth and labourers.

Referring to voter list revisions, Shah said irregularities have been observed in West Bengal on a large scale, unlike in other states. He also cited judicial intervention, stating that the Supreme Court had to step in by appointing judicial officers to oversee certain processes, raising questions over electoral transparency in the state.
The Home Minister further claimed that infiltration has significantly reduced in Assam under BJP rule, while alleging that West Bengal has now become a key route for such activities. He warned that this situation poses risks to critical areas like the Siliguri Corridor, underlining the broader national implications of the state elections.
Responding strongly, Trinamool Congress leader Kunal Ghosh dismissed Shah’s remarks and said that the people of Bengal have already prepared a “chargesheet” against the BJP. “The trial is over and the verdict is set to be issued,” he said, expressing confidence that the ruling party will emerge victorious. West Bengal is scheduled to vote in two phases on April 23 and 29, with counting set for May 4.
