Opposition Says Protest Will Continue Over Paper Leak Adjournment Motion

Opposition parties on Wednesday said their agitation over the alleged NEET paper leak controversy would continue if the government does not accept their demand for an adjournment motion in Parliament. Leaders from the Opposition bloc demanded a detailed discussion on the issue, along with action against those responsible and accountability from the government.

Speaking outside Parliament House, Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav said the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan and addressing the concerns of students and young people were among the Opposition’s key demands. He alleged that paper leaks had become a wider issue affecting multiple examinations across the country and claimed that students were facing uncertainty over employment opportunities.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra said the issue reflected a larger problem within the education system and accused the government of failing to address students’ concerns. She said the Opposition’s protests were focused on supporting students and families affected by examination irregularities, adding that the matter required serious discussion in Parliament.

Priyanka Gandhi also questioned why extended discussions could be held on other issues but not on the Opposition’s proposed adjournment motion related to the NEET controversy. She said the concerns of students, parents and teachers represented a broader public issue rather than a political dispute.

Congress MP K.C. Venugopal demanded that the government suspend regular parliamentary business and allow a discussion on the adjournment motion. He said accepting the Opposition’s request would demonstrate sensitivity towards students’ concerns, but warned that protests would continue if the government rejected the demand. The Congress also called for the withdrawal of cases against protesting students and an investigation into alleged police action during demonstrations.

The Trinamool Congress supported the Opposition’s stand, backing the protests and demanding an investigation into the NEET paper leak allegations. TMC leaders Saugata Roy and Kirti Azad said the issue was connected to the future of students and should be addressed through a proper inquiry and accountability measures. The government has maintained its position on handling the examination-related concerns, while discussions between parties over the matter continue in Parliament.
