Odisha has Seen 54 Communal Riots in 20 Months, CM Mohan Charan Majhi Tells Assembly

CM Majhi disclosed riot and lynching figures in the Assembly in response to a BJD legislator's question.

A total of 54 communal riots and seven mob lynching incidents were reported in Odisha between June 2024 and February 2026, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi informed the Odisha Legislative Assembly on Monday. The information was shared in a written reply during the Assembly session, providing details of incidents recorded across the state over the past 20 months.

Responding to a question from Goutam Buddha Das, the chief minister presented data on communal riots and mob lynching cases registered in different police stations from June 2024 to February 2026. According to the statement, law enforcement authorities have taken action against several individuals involved in these incidents during the period.

Majhi said that 298 people were arrested in connection with communal riot cases, while 61 individuals were arrested in mob lynching incidents reported across the state. The figures were part of official records compiled by the police and submitted to the assembly as part of the government’s response to the legislator’s query.

The statement, delivered in the Assembly in Bhubaneswar, highlighted the number of cases registered and the arrests made in connection with them. The data provided a snapshot of law-and-order situations related to communal clashes and mob violence reported in different parts of the state during the specified period.
