NCPI Becomes Largest Parliamentary Bloc In Bengal After Merger Of 20 Rebel TMC MPs

NCPI becomes largest parliamentary bloc in Bengal after 20 rebel TMC MPs join.

The Nationalist Citizens Party of India (NCPI) on Monday claimed it has emerged as the “largest parliamentary bloc from West Bengal” after reportedly inducting 20 rebel Trinamool Congress (TMC) Members of Parliament into its ranks, a development that has significantly altered the state’s political arithmetic.

The Tripura-based party, which is registered but unrecognised at the national level, made the claim through a series of social media posts, stating that with 20 Lok Sabha seats it had become the dominant political force representing West Bengal in Parliament. According to its posts, the party now positions itself as a key stakeholder in shaping the state’s national political voice.

The development came shortly after the reported merger of 20 rebel TMC MPs with NCPI, a move that the party said would strengthen its organisational reach and political influence. The party also issued a welcome statement for the new entrants, describing their “political experience, grassroots connectivity and commitment to the people” as assets that would contribute to its expansion and future growth.

As part of its claims, NCPI circulated a graphical breakdown of West Bengal’s total 42 Lok Sabha seats, suggesting a revised distribution in which it holds 20 seats, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) holds 12, the Trinamool Congress is reduced to eight, and the Congress has one seat. However, there has been no independent official confirmation of these figures.

The sudden emergence of NCPI in the state’s parliamentary discourse has also drawn attention to its organisational base. Reports traced an address linked to the party to the Sankrail area in Howrah district, where the property is reportedly owned by Uttiya Kundu and his wife, Shewly. Locals in the area said the couple had relocated from Nadia district around eight years ago, though no official political office status has been confirmed for the premises.

Following the reported developments, a significant deployment of central paramilitary personnel was seen outside the property from Monday morning, indicating heightened security attention around the party’s local operations. The political claims made by NCPI and the reported alignment of a large number of MPs have triggered widespread discussion in political circles, although the situation remains unclear pending verification from parliamentary records and official party confirmations.
