NC and PDP Slam J&K BJP MP For Diverting Majority of Funds to UP
NC and PDP criticize J&K BJP MP for allocating nearly all development funds to Uttar Pradesh instead of J&K.
The Jammu & Kashmir National Conference (NC) and the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) have criticized a BJP Member of Parliament from the region for reportedly spending 94% of the funds allocated for Jammu & Kashmir in Uttar Pradesh instead of the union territory. The criticism raises questions about fund utilization and constituency development priorities.
Party leaders from NC and PDP alleged that the MP diverted constituency development funds, which are intended for local infrastructure, welfare, and community projects, to projects outside Jammu & Kashmir. They argued that such allocation undermines the developmental needs of local residents and reflects poorly on accountability mechanisms.
According to official records, a substantial portion of the MP’s allocated funds under the Members of Parliament Local Area Development Scheme (MPLADS) was reportedly utilized in projects situated in Uttar Pradesh, drawing ire from opposition leaders who claim this violates the spirit of constituency-focused development.

The BJP MP, however, defended the expenditure, stating that the projects undertaken outside Jammu & Kashmir were part of broader initiatives and collaborations meant to benefit constituents indirectly. Supporters argue that cross-state investments can sometimes bring resources, expertise, or infrastructure opportunities back to the home region.
Political analysts say the controversy highlights ongoing tensions in Jammu & Kashmir politics, where opposition parties closely monitor government representatives’ development work. Misallocation or perceived diversion of funds can quickly become a flashpoint in the region’s politically charged environment.
As the debate continues, residents and observers are calling for greater transparency in the use of public funds. The situation underscores the need for accountability in development schemes and emphasizes the scrutiny faced by elected representatives in ensuring that allocated resources benefit their intended constituencies.
