Nair Body Escalates Attack On Kerala CM Amid Growing Political Row

A political controversy has intensified in Kerala after Nair Service Society (NSS) General Secretary G Sukumaran Nair strongly rejected Chief Minister VD Satheesan’s explanation over their reported communication gap. The dispute began after Satheesan said there was no disagreement between him and the NSS leader, but Sukumaran Nair later accused the Chief Minister of making a false statement and alleged that the relationship between them remained strained.

Speaking to the media on Wednesday, Chief Minister Satheesan said there was no rift with the NSS general secretary. He explained that Sukumaran Nair had attempted to contact him through his private secretary during the preparation of the state budget. Satheesan said his official phone was unavailable at the time and that he had informed his office to convey that he would return the call after the budget process was completed.

Hours after the Chief Minister’s statement, Sukumaran Nair rejected the explanation while addressing the media in Changanassery. He described Satheesan’s version of events as a “blatant lie” and said his attempt to contact the Chief Minister was related to official matters involving the government and the NSS rather than any personal request. He stated that he had never approached anyone seeking favours and only wanted proper communication with the government.

The NSS general secretary claimed that he had attempted to reach Satheesan twice through his private secretary but received a response from the Chief Minister’s Office only after six days. He alleged that he was not given the level of courtesy expected towards either an elected representative’s voter or the head of a major community organisation. He also said that previous Chief Ministers had not treated him in a similar manner.

Sukumaran Nair further criticised Satheesan’s earlier remarks that community leaders were “going from doorstep to doorstep,” saying the Chief Minister had not provided a satisfactory clarification. He alleged that the latest explanation was an attempt to avoid addressing the criticism. The NSS leader also raised concerns over Union Minister Suresh Gopi’s visit to the NSS headquarters at Perunna on the day of the state budget, claiming it was politically motivated.

The NSS chief also commented on the controversy surrounding the Vice President’s visit to Mannam Samadhi, alleging that the event was influenced by political considerations. He denied preventing anyone from offering prayers at the memorial and criticised security arrangements during the visit, including claims about changes made at the site. He described Mannam Samadhi as a place of religious and cultural importance and said certain security measures were inappropriate for the premises.

The exchange has highlighted tensions between the Kerala government and the influential Nair community organisation, with both sides presenting different accounts of the communication issue. The controversy is expected to remain a subject of political discussion as questions continue over the relationship between the state leadership and the NSS.
