Mamata’s Fiery TMC Rally to Slam BJP on Migrants

TMC’s Martyrs’ Day rally kicks off 2026 election campaign.

The Trinamool Congress (TMC) is set to hold its annual Martyrs’ Day rally in Kolkata on Monday, with West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee poised to lambast the BJP over alleged harassment of Bengali-speaking migrant workers in BJP-ruled states.

Lakhs of TMC supporters have flooded the city for the event, which commemorates the 1993 police firing that killed 13 Youth Congress workers, marking it as the party’s largest political gathering. This year’s rally is a strategic launchpad for TMC’s campaign ahead of the 2026 West Bengal assembly elections.

Banerjee is expected to intensify her Bengali pride narrative, accusing the BJP of linguistic profiling and “criminalizing poverty” under the guise of national security. The BJP has countered, dismissing the claims as political theatrics and blaming the TMC government for mismanaging migrant worker documentation and infiltration issues.

TMC national general secretary Abhishek Banerjee will also address the crowd, with Mamata’s speech anticipated to set the tone for the party’s election strategy. As political tensions escalate, the rally underscores TMC’s focus on regional identity and its aggressive stance against the BJP, drawing significant attention to Kolkata’s charged political landscape.
