Mamata Banerjee’s PSO Removed, TMC Raises Objections Against Suvendu Adhikari
Mamata Banerjee’s PSO removal sparks political controversy in Bengal.
The Trinamool Congress (TMC) on Friday launched a strong political attack after reports emerged that the personal security officer (PSO) assigned to party chief and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had been removed and replaced, triggering allegations of political vendetta and administrative overreach. The party claimed that the officer had been part of her security detail for over two decades, making the sudden change a matter of concern and controversy within political circles.
According to TMC leaders, the long-serving PSO, who had reportedly worked closely with Mamata Banerjee for more than 20 years, was recently reassigned, with authorities providing replacement personnel. However, party representatives said the Chief Minister had declined to accept the new arrangement, citing a lack of trust and continuity in personal security arrangements. The development quickly escalated into a political flashpoint between the ruling party and opposition voices in the state.
TMC MP Kalyan Banerjee strongly criticised the decision, alleging that the move reflected a “vindictive attitude” and amounted to an unnecessary interference in the Chief Minister’s personal security setup. He argued that for high-profile political leaders, familiarity and long-standing trust with security personnel are essential components of safety and operational efficiency.

In his remarks to reporters, Kalyan Banerjee said the replacement of a long-serving PSO without consultation or consent was “unfortunate” and “autocratic” in nature. He further claimed that the Chief Minister’s refusal to accept the new officer stemmed from concerns over reliability and continuity, asserting that personal security is a sensitive matter that should not be altered abruptly without strong justification.
The controversy also saw political blame being directed at BJP leader and Leader of Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly Suvendu Adhikari, with TMC leaders alleging his involvement in the decision-making process. However, no official statement has been released by Adhikari or the concerned administrative authorities clarifying the reason behind the PSO’s removal or reassignment.
The incident has further intensified the ongoing political confrontation in West Bengal, where administrative decisions frequently become subjects of partisan debate. While the TMC has framed the development as politically motivated, opposition leaders are yet to issue a detailed response. The issue is expected to remain a point of contention as both sides continue to exchange accusations over governance, security protocols, and institutional neutrality.
